Even for the most experienced wet shavers, an alum block is always good to have at home. When wet shaving, it is easy for an accident to occur and then the alum block has both a blood-stopping and pore-tightening effect. Alum is a potassium aluminum sulfate, which is a kind of salt that, thanks to its ability to soften razor burn and soothe the skin, is excellent to use after shaving, even if you have survived cuts. Block Alum makes it easy to use over larger skin areas. For deeper cuts, however, an alum stick is best.
