Are you looking for a more sustainable wet shave? Then you’ve come to the right place. Just by switching from shaving with a safety razor instead of a disposable razor or multi-blade system razor, you have already taken a big step towards a sustainable and climate-smart wet shave. In addition, choosing a shaving cream in a plastic tube or in a can instead of a spray bottle will take you even further. But for those of you who want to go even further, here are some additional measures to achieve an even more sustainable wet shave today.
Recycle your double razor blades
Perhaps the easiest and most basic thing you can do to make your wet shave even more sustainable is to recycle your double razor blades. Double razor blades are made of metal, unlike multi-blade systems or disposable razors that contain both plastic and metal.
Our recommendation is that you use a suitably large metal can where you collect your used double razor blades. When the can is full, recycle it by taking it to the metal recycling. This means that the double razor blades can be reused for, for example, new double razor blades.
It is important that you use a metal can to prevent the blades from hurting you or anyone else.
Using a refill soap
By using a refill soap, you can contribute to a more sustainable shave in several ways.
For example, a refill soap reduces the need for plastic because it does not have the same amount of plastic as a shaving soap that comes in a plastic jar. This means that less production of plastic is needed and also causes less emissions of plastic into the environment, which are two very good reasons to choose a refill soap.
A refill soap is also significantly cheaper than a shaving soap in a bowl.
The refill soaps for most shaving soaps that come in a shaving bowl can easily be replaced if you want to try a different scent than the one you have at the moment, without having to buy a whole new shaving soap in a bowl with a different scent.
Since refill soaps generally come in a smaller and lighter package than shaving soaps in a bowl, they use less packaging material and fewer transports.
So there are plenty of sustainable reasons to use a refill soap for a more sustainable wet shave.
Use a porcelain or metal shaving bowl
We offer a number of fine refill soaps that in many cases also have a matching shaving bowl in porcelain, wood or metal where the soap that comes with it can be replaced with a refill when used.
At the same time, we really want to recommend the sustainable choice of using your very own shaving bowl in, for example, porcelain or metal, something that we also offer.
A porcelain or metal shaving bowl has enough space for most of the refill soaps we sell, making it easy for you to change and mix soap as you wish. By buying a porcelain or metal shaving cup, you can also be sure that it will last a very long time and give you many wonderful wet shaving experiences.
Not to mention the feeling it brings. An almost meditative feeling to create your shaving foam with the help of the shaving cup, shaving brush and refill soap. Of course, the shaving bowl is also a great way to create your shaving foam with shaving cream in a tube.”
Take good care of your shaving tools and accessories
Make sure to always store your shaving tools, such as safety razors and shaving brushes, in a suitable rack. This means that they last longer and the risk of unnecessary wear and tear is reduced.
An example of this could be not storing your shaving brush hanging vertically upside down in a rack. This allows water to penetrate the knot of the brush head and cause unnecessary damage, which in turn can cause you to need to buy a new shaving brush and thereby cause unnecessary spills and other things.
The same goes for your safety razor as well. By storing it properly, you can more easily avoid unnecessary damage and wear and tear on it.
Use a razor for a durable wet shave
A big step to take, but also something that can make a big difference to the climate. Probably the most climate-smart and sustainable way to shave, with a classic razor.
Unlike shaving tools such as safety razors and shavettes, a razor does not require consumables such as double razor blades or shavette blades. However, a lot of maintenance is required to keep the razor blade’s sharpness sharp.
Although both shavettes and safety razors have a very long lifespan, razors do too, maybe even longer. Razors are also made from highly durable materials that allow a razor to last a lifetime.
