It all started when Baxter wanted a facial moisturizer that was also suitable for men, but he couldn’t find anything other than floral-scented creams that were mainly intended for women. He realized there was a big gap to fill, and with that, the idea of creating his own moisturizer was born and in 1965 he launched Super Shape. It was a skin conditioner specifically designed for men, providing protection from both the sun and the sea, something much needed in California. Super Shape was a huge success and the brand grew rapidly. It soon became a full line of skincare products and demand was high.
Men’s skincare was something new and little known at the time, and Baxter Finley helped break ground in this unexplored area. They were among the first with a range of products and this paved the way for the brand’s success with Hollywood celebrities.
