Even for the most experienced wet rafters, an alum block is always good to have at home. When wet shaving, it is easy to have an accident and then the alum block acts both as a blood stopper and as a pore constrictor. Alum is a potassium aluminum sulphate, which is a kind of salt that, thanks to its ability to soothe razor burn and calm the skin, is ideal for use after shaving, even if you’ve survived cuts. Block alum makes it easy to use over larger areas of skin. However, for deeper cuts, an alum pencil is best.
