A number of different types of spices and herbs are also common typical masculine scents. Cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla and anise are some examples. Aftershave is a collective name for a number of different products that are adapted to be used after shaving. The products have been used for about as long as wet shaving in general, for about 250 years.

A disadvantage of alcohol is that it has a drying effect on the skin. Therefore, there are varieties that have less or no alcohol in them. Ingredients such as witch hazel also have a good antiseptic or antibacterial effect. A very good and well-proven alternative to alcohol that is often found in aftershave.
Aftershave is another name for aftershave splash, the most traditional type of aftershave. It is also the type of aftershave with the most alcohol and usually the most aroma.
What is also central is that it is not the aroma itself in an aftershave that is important. An aftershave also usually contains a very small amount of perfume oil, the ingredient that gives off fragrance. Therefore, the fragrance itself will work for a shorter time than other types of perfumes and fragrances.

So when should you choose an aftershave?
You always use an aftershave after shaving either to directly counteract various skin problems such as cuts and the like. For this, an aftershave splash or an aftershave lotion is very suitable.

Although an Eau de cologne like aftershave can contain alcohol, it is not the main ingredient. The amount is also much smaller. Instead, it contains a higher amount of perfume oil. The amount of perfume oil it contains varies depending on the brand and model.
To compare, an aftershave contains somewhere between 1 to 3 percent perfume oil, while after Eau de Cologne contains at least double the amount, if not more. Then the scent lingers for a significantly longer time, up to a few hours depending on a number of factors. These include the skin, the amount of perfume oil and several others.
An Eau de cologne then contains a smaller amount of perfume oil than other types of perfumes such as Eau de toilette. This means that an Eau de Cologne will not be as intense for a longer period of time. At the same time, the products are slightly cheaper.

Something that is important to keep in mind that the scent in an Eau de Parfum evaporates over time. An opened bottle of Eau de Parfum will last for maybe a year or two fully before the fragrance can start to evaporate properly. It should also be stored dry and in an environment without direct light.

When to choose an Eau de Cologne?
An Eau de Cologne can be used daily, in many cases it may be recommended to do this as it prevents bad odors from spreading. It doesn’t remove the smell or cause, but it masks it with a different smell.
Keep in mind that an Eau de Cologne only lasts for a number of hours, therefore you may need to apply more over a day. But it is better to apply a smaller amount repeatedly throughout the day instead of once and a larger amount. The latter can cause problems in fellow human beings.
It is not at all uncommon to have several different types of Eau de Cologne with different scents depending on the occasion and time of day, for example. Maybe you have one for your daily activities during the week, then one on weekday evenings, and a third for the weekend.
Eau de Parfum
Eau de Parfum has a significantly higher amount of perfume oil than an Eau de Cologne. An Eau de Cologne is about 4 to 8 percent, an Eau de Parfum is at least twice the amount of perfume oil. Since the perfume oil is the ingredient that is more precious, the price also increases. At the same time, an Eau de Parfum keeps the fragrance more intense for a longer period of time. This means that you need a smaller amount than, for example, an Eau de Cologne.
Keep in mind that an Eau de Parfum has a higher amount of perfume oil than an Eau de Cologne does. You therefore do not need to have as much. Too much Eau de Parfum can be unpleasant.
