BEARD CARE GUIDE
To keep your beard looking nice and healthy, beard care is needed. How much is needed is up to both you and your beard. Some beards may need a little more, others a little less. But regardless, we think your beard deserves love and care. Therefore, we want to recommend and guide you with our guide to beard care how to make your beard nice and healthy.
Why should you dedicate yourself to beard care?
Your face is something that should be attracted to your other people’s eyes. If you have facial hair on your face, it can therefore be good if it looks neat and well-groomed, it gives a nice impression. Especially if your beard is a dominant or powerful feature of your face, beard care is an extra important part.
Before you think that it is difficult, difficult and time-consuming, we would argue that the opposite. Beard care is not difficult, difficult or particularly time-consuming. Although it may seem that way at first, you’ll soon get into a routine that’s easy to perform. This applies regardless of what type of beard you have.
Of course, a longer beard will take a little more time and effort than a shorter beard growth. But regardless of beard growth, you and your face deserve beard care with care and love. After all, you’ve chosen to get that nice beard. So why not take care of it in a good way? It’s also up to you how much time and energy you want to spend on your beard care. But it’s also you who can enjoy the result.
But then why devote yourself to beard care? The simple answer is that your beard and the skin under your beard are extra sensitive.
Of course, you don’t have to devote yourself to beard care at all. Just shaving it all off and then devoting yourself to classic wet shaving is just fine. Of course, we also have everything you need if you want to enter the wonderful world.
But if we now say that it is actually beard care you want to devote yourself to, care and care of your beard, it is important for the beard to look vibrant and nice. An unkempt beard can leave an unkempt impression on the rest of your face. In addition, if the skin looks unkempt, it can also give a worse impression. Of course, it doesn’t have to, but the risk is there.
Your face and beard are exposed to great stress on a daily basis, not least during the colder and warmer months of the year. During the winter, both cold and moisture affect the beard and the skin on the face, which means that it can be damaged. The same thing risks happening in the summer. Something that can cause problems and problems for you. With beard care, you can therefore avoid those problems.
The most basic products you need
Along with beard tools such as a beard brush, a beard scissors, mustache comb, and beard comb, you may need one or more products for beard care and the skin underneath it.
As with tools, you should always start from your needs and wishes first and foremost. Although we would like to guide you to the products you may need.
The two most basic products you need for beard care are beard oil and beard balm. Both products have similar uses and properties. They can be used individually or together.
Beard oil
We often talk about the almost supernatural power that beard oil possesses, the thing about supernatural powers may not be entirely true. But beard oil is a great product that is suitable for all beard types, whether you have beard stubble or long thick beard growth.
So what makes beard oil special?
Beard oils usually contain a variety of beneficial and moisturizing oils adapted for the beard and the skin underneath it. Almond oil, olive oil, argan oil, jojoba oil are examples of oils that beard oil can contain. Most often, beard oil is made entirely on natural ingredients. Beard oil can be used daily or as needed. The purpose is to moisturize the beard, strengthen it, give it a more natural luster and shine.
When the beard is exposed to moisture, for example by washing, precipitation or in other ways getting wet, natural oils and other things that protect the beard can be rinsed off. Therefore, a beard oil may be needed to prevent the beard from drying out and risking damage.
With beard oil, the beard can also get a little extra luster and shine. Can be used on all beard types and lengths.
If you also use beard balm in your beard, for example, you should use beard oil before.
Beard oil should mainly be used on a dry and clean beard.
How should I use the beard oil?
Make sure your hands are clean and dry. The same goes for your beard, it should be dry and clean for the best results of your beard care.
Feel free to start by brushing through your beard with a beard brush. If necessary, you can also use a beard comb. The beard brush and beard comb remove dirt, dust, and other particles that can get stuck.
Take a few drops of beard oil in the palm of your hand. It doesn’t have to be much at all. If you feel that you need more, you can take a little more. But it’s better to start with too little than too much.
Feel free to warm up the beard oil a little by rubbing it gently into your hands.
Massage the beard oil into the beard and the skin underneath. Especially the skin underneath is important that you access.
When you’re done, you can brush and or comb through your beard again to further atomize the oil.
Beard balm
If you have a slightly longer beard, you can use a beard balm in addition to the beard oil. Beard balm has a similar effect to beard oil in that it is moisturizing and strengthens the beard. In addition, beard balm can add even more volume and shine to the beard. Excellent if you have a longer thick beard.
Beard balm can also be used on slightly shorter beards.
One benefit of using beard balm with beard oil is that beard balm can create an extra protective layer for the beard hairs and skin. Beard balm together with beard oil also creates good protection for the skin under the beard. Gives it extra hydration and nourishment.
When using beard oil and beard balm, it is important to keep in mind that you do not need to use a large amount. A few drops of beard oil and a small dab of beard balm are more than enough. If you use too much, your beard can appear oily and greasy. Something you don’t want.
As with beard oil, you can use beard balm daily or as needed in your beard.
Beard balm, like beard oil, contains mostly natural ingredients, a common ingredient is beeswax, for example.
How should I use beard balm?
As with beard oil, it is important that the beard and hands are clean and dry when applying beard balm.
You start the same way you use beard oil by brushing through the beard, if necessary you can also comb through it. The purpose is to straighten the beard hairs and remove dirt, dust and other particles that have stuck to the beard.
If you are going to use both beard oil and beard balm, you should use the beard oil first. This is because the beard oil penetrates deeper into the beard hairs and skin. Beard balm can then be used to create an additional protective layer on the outside.
Start with a small amount of beard balm, take more if necessary.
Beard balm usually needs to be warmed up and massaged into the palms of your hands before it is applied.
Once you feel that your beard balm is properly heated, you can massage it into your beard and skin. Take more if necessary.
Afterwards, you can brush and or comb your beard again to further atomize your beard balm.
If you use beard balm and beard oil together up to every day, you are doing pretty much everything needed for basic beard care.
Beard washing
Beard washing is available in several different varieties to suit different needs and occasions. You can find beard washes as solid soap, in liquid form in bottles and as practical wipes. The solid soap is often long-lasting and suitable for use at home, while the liquid variant is easy to dose and works great in the shower. Wipes are very convenient to take with you on the go, in your gym bag or at work, as they allow you to quickly and easily refresh and moisturize your beard on the go.
For best results, it is recommended to use a beard wash in conjunction with showering, bathing or washing your face. This will remove dirt, sweat and product residue, while keeping your beard and skin underneath fresh and hydrated.
Here’s how:
Wet your beard thoroughly:
Start by rinsing through your beard with lukewarm water. Make sure that the entire beard is thoroughly wet, so that the cleaning can work effectively.
Apply beard wash: If you’re using liquid beard wash or solid soap, take a moderate amount (about the size of a pea for liquid wash, or lather up the soap between your hands) in one palm. Work up a rich lather by rubbing your hands together.
Massage into the beard:
Work the foam thoroughly into the entire beard, from the roots out to the ends. Also massage into the skin under the beard with your fingertips to remove dirt and dead skin cells. This also stimulates blood circulation and can contribute to healthier beard growth.
Rinse thoroughly:
Rinse out the beard thoroughly with lukewarm water until all the foam is gone. It is important that no soap residue is left behind, as this can irritate the skin and dry out both the beard and skin.
Repeat if necessary:
If your beard feels extra dirty or if you use a lot of styling products, you can repeat the wash one more time to get it really clean.
Dry and moisturize:
After washing, you can gently squeeze out excess water with a towel. For best results, feel free to finish by applying a beard oil or beard balm to moisturize and soften both beard and skin.
If you use beard wash in the form of wet wipes, just take out a wipe and thoroughly wipe through the beard and the skin underneath. This is a quick and easy way to freshen up your beard when you don’t have access to water.
By regularly cleaning and caring for your beard, you keep it fresh, soft and healthy, while preventing itching and skin irritation.
Mustache wax
Mustache wax is an indispensable tool for those who want to take care of their mustache and give it a neat, stylish and well-groomed shape every day. With the help of moustache wax, you can easily style the mustache, tame unruly hairs and create both classic and creative shapes that last all day. In addition, the wax helps to protect the mustache hairs from dehydration and external stresses. An excellent addition to your beard care.
To get the best results from your beard care with mustache wax, it is important to apply mustache wax correctly. The application is similar to how you use a harder beard balm, but often requires a little more care as the mustache is smaller and requires precision to get the desired shape.
Always start your beard care routine by making sure your mustache is completely clean and dry before applying the mustache wax. If there is dirt, old product residue or moisture in the mustache, the wax may have a poorer grip and the result will not be as durable. Therefore, wash the mustache if necessary and dry it thoroughly with a towel.
Before applying the wax, you can advantageously use a moustache comb or a small brush. Brush through the moustache to untangle any tangles, remove dust and dirt, and straighten the hairs. This makes it easier to distribute the wax evenly and shape the mustache in a neat way.
Next, take a small amount of mustache wax, about the size of a pea or less, depending on the length and thickness of the mustache. Heat the wax between your fingertips by rubbing them together until the wax becomes soft and completely melted by the body heat. It is important that there are no lumps left, as these can otherwise be visible and make it more difficult to shape the mustache evenly.
Once the wax is thoroughly heated, start applying it to the mustache. Work the wax in with your fingertips, preferably from the middle of the mustache and out towards the sides. Make sure to distribute the wax evenly over the entire mustache, both on the surface and down towards the roots if you want extra hold. Then use the moustache comb or your fingers to shape the moustache as desired – whether you want a natural look, a classic “handlebar” shape or something more unique.
If you want extra durability, you can take a little more wax and apply to the outer edges of the mustache, where it often needs the most hold. Remember that it’s better to start with a little wax and add more as needed, than to use too much at once.
By using mustache wax regularly, you not only keep your mustache neat and shapely, but you also protect the hairs from wear and tear and dehydration. Feel free to finish by combing through the mustache one last time to ensure that the wax is evenly distributed and that the shape fits exactly as you want it. The icing on the cake in your beard care.
The tools you need for beard care
The first, and for many people perhaps the only tool they need for beard care is a shaving brush. It can either be a small shaving brush or a larger shaving brush. A smaller shaving brush is easy to take with you everywhere during the day if your beard needs to be brushed through more than once.
But why do you need a beard brush for beard care?
A beard brush has several purposes for beard care. First of all, it can help to straighten beard hairs, which can make them look slightly neater. At the same time, the brush removes dirt, dust and other particles that can easily get stuck in the beard. It can also atomize both natural and applied oils in a simple way. This makes a beard brush among the best and we think the natural first tool for beard care that you need.
For best results, you should use your beard brush on a dry beard.
If you have a longer beard, you should also have a beard comb that can further help style the beard.
Do you have a nice moustache? Even then, a smaller beard brush can be a good idea together with a moustache comb. With a moustache comb, it is even easier to access the moustache where a larger beard brush can sometimes have difficulty accessing properly. The moustache comb does the same thing as the beard brush, i.e. removes dirt, dust, food residue and other things that are stuck in your mustache.
Do you really need special scissors to keep your beard trimming?
Yes.
A beard scissor is a great second tool to get for your beard care. With beard scissors, you can easily cut off feathers and other things that can reduce the impression of your beard. Also of course beard hairs that do not grow as you wish, maybe they grow too far or in the wrong direction. It’s also a great way to easily trim your beard if needed. So why do you need special scissors? For the simple reason that you would rather not cross-contaminate or risk spreading viruses and bacteria from one place to another.
Beard comb for those with a slightly longer beard
If you’ve been letting your beard grow for a while, for a couple of months or longer, in addition to your beard brush, you may also need a beard comb for your beard care. It has a slightly easier time straightening beard hairs and finely distributing products. Like the beard brush, it also removes dirt and dust, for example, that has stuck to the beard. It is also slightly easier to work with a beard comb in a slightly longer thicker beard than a beard brush.
You can use a beard comb both in a beard that is wet or dry.
