How to avoid the mistakes of wet shaving

The most common shaving mistakes in men.

Whether you’re a new wet shaver or an experienced one, it’s easy to be careless with the basics sometimes. They can be a stressful morning or simply laziness or ignorance. However, it is these steps that make all the difference and are most important in creating the beautiful ritual and unbeatable results that wet shaving provides. Here we have listed the most common mistakes in men, read and make sure you don’t make any of them!

Skipping the preparations

Preparation is essential for a successful shave, but it’s easy to be careless with that part when you’ve overslept in the morning and are going off to work. To get a close and gentle shave, it’s important to first prepare the skin and soften the beard hairs. Take a hot shower or let your face rest for a few minutes in a warm towel and your face is well prepared for shaving. People with sensitive skin can use a few drops of shaving oil and massage into the beard.

Skimping on shaving soap

Or the worst sin, shaving directly on the skin! Many people find that their skin may feel irritated or sore after shaving. It can also manifest as small “burn marks”, rashes or red dots. To avoid this, it is important to be sure to use a good shaving cream or shaving soap that contains glycerin, and also use plenty of the product. A thin layer of lather is enough to create a good glide surface. If you want to repeat the shave, do the procedure again and take new lather on your face and shave with the razor again.

Shaving against the hair

Ingrown beard hairs, inflamed hair follicles and razor fins are usually due to shaving against the hair. Get to know your beard growth and you’ll have a more comfortable shave! Moisten your face when you have a few days of stubble and then feel with your hand in which directions the beard grows. Keep in mind that the growth can vary on different parts of the face, you may need to change direction on e.g. the neck or cheeks.

Pushing with the planer

The most common cause of cuts is that you have pressed too hard with the razor on the skin. Avoid cuts by letting the weight of the razor do the work. You should not press it against your skin! Be sure to always pull the razor blade downwards, if you pull it sideways, it is easy to get a cut. If an accident should still occur, there is quick help available, e.g. with an alum stick or an antiseptic gel!

Careless with aftercare

All shaving with a razor wears down the skin. In fact, every time you shave, the razor takes a thin layer of skin with it. Therefore, it is important to always use a nourishing after shave. There are several different types of aftershave products, such as lotion or splash. Which one suits you best depends on your skin type and season, if you have drier skin or in winter, a lotion is best. For normal or oilier skin and in the summer, a splash is usually the most comfortable. To minimize the risk of skin irritation even further, you should also rinse your face in cold water after shaving to soothe the skin after lathering and razor. Dab gently with a clean and dry towel (do not rub; then you will remove the skin’s own moisturizing oils).
