We are increasingly contacted by women who are curious about wet shaving and therefore we have gathered useful information about wet shaving, its benefits and how women can also use this fantastic shaving method in this article.

Why wet shaving?

The benefits of wet shaving for women are the same as for men: wet shaving reduces the risk of skin irritation and rashes and, of course, gives an unbeatable result with a longer shelf life than other shaving. It is more economical and also more environmentally friendly than disposable razors.

How do you do it?

Preparation

To get a close and gentle shave, it’s important to first prepare the skin and soften the hairs. Feel free to take a warm bath or shower before shaving. Exfoliate the skin with a scrub or exfoliator. If you have very sensitive skin, it can be an advantage to use a pre-shave oil to create an extra protective layer against the skin.
In traditional wet shaving, it is important to use plenty of water even during the shave itself to create as little friction as possible between the razor blade and the skin, an advantage is therefore to do the procedure in the bath or shower.

While you’re preparing your skin for shaving, you can let your shaving brush stand and soak in warm water.

The shaving foam

Once you’ve prepared your skin and hairs with warm water, it’s time to create your shaving foam. There are many different techniques and these are just a few examples of how you can go about it. Make sure your shaving soap or shaving cream contains glycerin for a low friction with the razor. It is important to get the lather as moist as possible by adding water dropwise while you make it.

Shaving soap: Shake excess water out of the brush, it should be damp but not runny. Then whisk the brush with a light pressure over the soap for 10-15 seconds. Make sure the brush is “loaded” with the foam created and it’s ready for use. Then, whip up the lather in your shaving bowl or massage it directly onto your leg using circular motions.

Shaving cream: Shake excess water out of the brush, it should be damp but not runny. Take an almond-sized shaving cream on the side of the brush or in your shaving bowl and whip up a thick and airy lather. You can also create the lather directly on the bone by gently moving the brush in circular motions.

The lather is ready when it no longer has any large bubbles, then you are ready to start your shave. Make sure the lather covers the leg with an even – but not too thick – layer.

The Count

Grab your razor and let the razor rest lightly against your skin. Do not press the razor against the skin, then you may cut yourself, but let the weight of the razor do the work. The optimal angle is 30 degrees, then the razor gets as close to the skin as possible with minimal pressure. With small short strokes, you then shave with the hair in the growth of the hairs. The skin on the legs is thicker than on the face and if you don’t have very sensitive skin, you can try shaving against the hair if you prefer. However, we do not recommend this on sensitive areas such as the bikini line. Change the side of the razor between each stroke and rinse in between to always shave with a clean blade. Make sure to always use a sharp blade to reduce the risk of slipping.

To get as close a shave as possible, try to flatten the skin to create as smooth areas as possible to shave.

When finished, rinse off the skin, the procedure can be repeated if necessary.
