Make a warm shaving towel
There are several ways to make a warm towel for a premium wet shave at home.
To really get that luxurious feeling of a first-class wet shave like at the barber at home, you should start by pouring a few drops of shaving oil or beard oil, preferably with the scent of eucaltyptus or menthol, into the towel and work it in. This is to get a lovely scent.
One method that is simple but can take some time is to simply place the towel in a clean sink and flush with warm water. Something that can require quite a lot of hot water but can of course be done in the bathroom where you shave. Then, make sure to squeeze out the towel thoroughly before using it. It should be moist, not soggy, for best results.
An additional method is to place a damp towel in the microwave for 30 seconds. Something that may require a little more work, although the result may come somewhat faster. It is also important to keep an eye on it during the time so that no accidents happen and that it is close to the microwave from the bathroom or where you shave.
Last but not least, for a first-class wet shave with a towel. Place the towel in a heatproof container and pour hot water over it, preferably from the kettle. Again, something that requires some preparation. In addition, you should wait a bit before wringing out the towel so as not to burn yourself.
How to do your first-class wet shave in 10 steps
It’s finally time for your premium wet shave. In the beginning it will take a little while. But let it do that. Or by all means, let it always do so. Enjoy this.
- Make sure to have everything prepared and easy at hand. For example, if you need a warm shaving towel, make sure you have prepared it. Once you start your top-notch wet shave, you don’t want to be bothered by anything. Remember that this is your moment for relaxation and contemplation.
- Even if you’ve taken a long hot shower before, we still think you should treat your face and beard to the feeling of a warm towel. Maybe it’s been a while between getting out of the shower and shaving. Or if you want to shave at another time, a clean warm towel is a must for a premium wet shave.
- Start your journey to a premium wet shave by applying a pre-shave. Which one you choose is up to you. Pre-shave is available either as lotion, oil, or solid soap. The purpose of a pre-shave is to moisturize and soften the skin and beard hairs before wet shaving. You don’t need to rinse it off, but make sure to let it absorb something into the skin. In the meantime, you can, for example, prepare for the next step and clean away what you have used.
- While you let your pre-shave soak in, you can, for example, prepare your shaving foam by moistening your shaving brush under lukewarm water. It should not be too hot or too cold. The brush should be damp but not wet when you use it. Create your shaving foam in the way you want.
- The first of the two most important parts of your premium wet shave, massaging in your shaving foam. Use small rotating movements and take your time.
- Just like with pre-shave, shaving foam should absorb slightly for the best effect and a nice first-class wet shave. Make sure to prepare for the next step.
- The most important step in your entire premium wet shave, the shave itself. Now, take it easy and carefully, especially if you’re using shavette. Right now, there is nothing else to do but to be in the moment.
- If necessary, repeat steps 5 through 7. Why not do it? You should still have a first-class wet shave.
- When you’re done, feel free to apply a little after shave balm which hydrates the skin and is a perfect finish for a premium wet shave.
- If you really want to get the feeling of being at a classic barber, you can also use a small amount of after shave splash for the right feeling in a first-class wet shave. An aftershave splash, on the other hand, contains alcohol. If you have sensitive skin, you should avoid it.
