Personna was founded over 135 years ago in New York, USA. It is one of the oldest brands in shaving products and has a long history of producing very high quality razor blades.

Personal history

The Personna shaving brand was founded in 1875 by brothers Fredrik and Otto Kampfe. The brand is American and was founded in Brooklyn, New York. Today, the company is one of the largest manufacturers of razors and razor blades.

It all started when they filed a patent, which was approved, and then they started manufacturing the very first safety razor. Their patent mentions the term ‘safety razor’ for the first time and this is the word that is still used today for this type of razor with replaceable blades.

The safety razor was a total innovation that revolutionized shaving for many men and also for the entire shaving industry. It opened up a whole new world of possibilities and Personna pioneered this uncharted territory when it launched the first safety razor produced in the USA. Called the Star, the razor was both much easier to use and maintain than the razors used previously. The planer had a safety device that protected users from cutting themselves on the blade, something not found on razors. The Kampf brothers’ manufacturing operations became part of the American Safety Razor Company, ASR, which also acquired shaving care brands such as Gem, Pal and Burma Shave. Through ASR, the Kampfes brothers were able to market their products very effectively and become one of the leading producers of wet shaving products at the beginning of the 20th century.
