New challenge in beard care and wet shaving

Soon it’s a new year, a fresh start, a chance to challenge yourself in beard care and wet shaving. Maybe next year is you spend more time on your beard through beard care. Or the year that you will start with classic wet shaving. Either way, there’s a beard care and wet shaving challenge waiting for you. Want some suggestions? We have collected six that can be different in difficulty but that we know you will manage.

Maybe you start with a slightly simpler challenge and gradually make your way up through the levels. Maybe you have your own challenge to take on? What will be your challenge in wet shaving and beard care in 2023?

Aftershave Beard care, skin problems, treatment

Beard care

In short, beard care means taking care of your beard in the best way. Whether you have a few days of stubble up to a long, thick full beard. Maybe you only have a beard on the sides, on your chin or a nice moustache. Either way, there are beard care challenges for you.

First challenge

This one should really be obvious in beard care. To use a beard oil daily or as needed. Preferably together with a beard brush for the best effect. Does that sound time-consuming, do you think? If we say that it takes maybe a minute or so a day to do this in connection with the shower in the morning. Does it seem complicated? Not at all, all you need is some beard oil and a brush.

But how do you do that?

Start by making sure that your beard is clean and dry. It can be a little damp but not wet. Take one to a few drops of beard oil in the palm of your hand, work it slightly into your hands and apply to your face. Finish by running a beard brush through the beard to finely distribute the oil. The beard oil will give your beard luster, shine and look healthy and strong.

But I only have short stubble, can/should I still use beard oil?

Absolutely, beard oil can be used on all beard lengths from short stubble to long full beards. Even if you have a mustache or a little beard on your chin or sides, you can use a beard oil. If you have facial hair, there is no reason not to use a beard oil.

Second challenge

For those of you who have already taken on the first challenge or who want to try a slightly larger challenge at once, here is the second challenge.

This challenge doesn’t really require you to have already taken on the first challenge. But at the same time, the first challenge in beard care, using beard oil and beard brush daily or as needed is a very simple challenge and you don’t lose anything by not doing it.

In this challenge, we’re going to add two more products, beard balm (or beard balm) and a beard shampoo. No weirdness right away but it requires a little more time and a few more steps.

What should I do?

When you shower, use the beard shampoo on your facial hair. But now you’re probably thinking, can’t I use my regular shampoo or soap? You can, but this is better for the beard. The beard hairs are different from the hairs and the skin on the face is different from the skin on the head. Both are above all more sensitive. Using a special beard shampoo ensures better protection and hydration of the beard hairs and skin. You don’t need to have a lot of beard shampoo. You can do this daily or as needed. Even if you only have stubble, you can do this with good results.

Beard balm is used after you have applied the beard oil. It further strengthens and moisturizes the beard and skin. Recommended for all beard lengths, especially if you have a slightly longer beard, a beard balm is highly recommended. You can use beard balm daily or as needed.

Third challenge

The third and final challenge is both slightly more difficult, more time-consuming and a lot of patience testing as well. Here it’s all about using beard tools to keep your beard trim.

There are a number of different ways this can be done. Either by using a beard trimmer. The advantage is that it goes fast, but it takes a lot of practice to get it right. In addition, it is easy for mistakes to be made.

Using a safety razor is an easier way to get straight neat lines, for example on the cheeks and along the neck. Can be done, for example, in the shower or afterwards. Feel free to use a shaving gel or shaving cream that protects the skin during shaving. If you are extra daring, you can of course use shavette or a razor.

To tidy up the length of the beard, cut off feathers and other things, a beard scissors are recommended. You should do this at least once a week or as needed.

Maybe you also want to start experimenting with, for example, mustache wax to shape a nice mustache or why not do something else beautiful with your beard?

Wet shaving, skin problems

Wet shaving

Classic wet shaving involves shaving, for example, the beard on the face with one or more classic shaving tools such as a safety razor, shaving brush, double razor blades or other similar shaving tools. Of course, also shavette and razor. The longest-used shaving tool for classic wet shaving. A hobby that has become very popular and where there is a lot of fun to discover for those who wish.

First challenge

The first challenge in wet shaving is to start with it. Leaving disposable razors, razors with multi-system blades and more. Although at first glance and thought it may seem difficult, difficult and time-consuming, it is not. At the same time, in the beginning, it can be good to take your time and not stress. For example, start with wet shaving on days you can take your time. To start, you’ll need a safety razor, a pack of razor blades, and a shaving cream. Shaving cream comes either in a tube, bottle or can. There are several shaving creams both with and without fragrance. In addition, a number of vegan options.

But how do I do that?

Choose the right razor blade

If you want to start with shavette or razor right away, you can of course do that too. However, these have a higher learning curve than learning wet shaving with a safety razor. The advantage is that you will know a craft that few others do, especially if you learn to use a razor, the way that people have shaved for over 250 years. The razors of the past also look much like today’s. In other words, an opportunity to be part of a tradition and culture with hundreds of years of history.

Second challenge

The second challenge in classic wet shaving is to start with a shaving brush and shaving soap in a bowl. Actually, a challenge that you can start with at the same time as you start with the first. But since there is a certain amount of technique and learning involved in handling the safety razor, it can be a good idea to wait a bit, at least a week or so, before taking on the second challenge. All so that you can feel in a good way that you are having fun when you dedicate yourself to wet shaving and that you enjoy it.

Much of the classic thing in wet shaving is to create your own shaving foam with the help of a shaving brush and a shaving soap in a bowl. Of course, you can also use a shaving cream for this purpose. However, it will be easier if you have a shaving bowl or shaving cup to create your lather with.

Which shaving soap you choose is up to your personal preference. Perhaps the most important thing is to find a scent that suits you. In our range, we have everything from classic fragrances that are timeless, masculine and that have been used for generations. We also have newer, more modern fragrances. Some shaving soaps contain animal products such as sebum. But there are also completely vegetable shaving soaps. Both are equally good.

Which shaving brush to choose is also up to you, your personal taste and taste. What differentiates the brushes is the type of hair or bristles they have. Badger hair is a common very popular classic option, as are wild boar bristles. There are also several synthetic options.

Third challenge

The third challenge can be designed to suit your personal taste. You can choose one or more of the different disciplines depending on what suits you.

For those who want or have a need for additional products.

One way to go could be to add one or two additional products to your wet shave, a pre-shave and an aftershave. Maybe you already use an aftershave today but are you using the right aftershave for you and your skin? If you use a shave, or after shave splash today, it can be harmful to your skin. Then maybe an aftershave lotion or balm is a better option. Several of our shaving creams and shaving soaps can be purchased with matching aftershave at a discounted price. Just like with shaving soap and shaving cream, there is aftershave without fragrance.

A pre-shave is used before wet shaving to moisturize the skin and increase the friction that occurs between the razor blade and the skin during wet shaving. It can help prevent skin problems and irritation that can occur. Pre-shave is available in a variety of forms such as solid soap, oil (also called shaving oil), lotion or cream. Many of our shaving creams and shaving soaps can be purchased with a pre-shave at a discounted price. There are pre-shave both with and without fragrance.

For those of you who want a little order in the bathroom, an excellent third challenge is to get a stand for your shaving tools, either a combined stand that fits both the safety razor and the shaving brush or something that fits one or the other. A stand also helps to extend the life of your shaving tools and that they last longer.

Of course, you can also do this challenge earlier if you want, the sooner you do it the better. At the same time, it can be good to try out what feels right for you.
