Vanligaste myterna om våtrakning

True or false? The most common myths about wet shaving!

We have all heard one or more of them, and probably questioned how much truth is behind it, but still they are there in the back of our minds. We talk about the myths surrounding shaving. We have listed some of the most common myths and bust them one by one!

1. Wet shaving every day makes the beard grow faster, thicker and darker

This is one of the most common and oldest myths about shaving that we can bust once and for all. The thickness and color of beard growth is not controlled by how often you shave, and shaving every day does not make hairs grow faster.

2. New razor blades give more cuts and not better shaving

In fact, the truth is quite the opposite. There is a significantly greater risk of getting cuts with an old, dull razor blade than with a new sharp one. With an older razor blade, you need to use more pressure to get a close shave, which is one of the most common causes of cuts. When you notice that you need to apply more pressure to the razor to get a close shave, it’s a sign that it’s time to change the blade!

3. You have to shave several times to get a close shave

As a rule, it is not the number of times you shave that determines how smooth the result will be, shaving several times in the same area rather only causes irritated skin.

4. Razor blades should be changed once a week

There are many different factors that determine how quickly a razor blade needs to be replaced. For example, how well it is cared for and cleaned after each shave, how often you shave, which blade you use, etc. If you use a high-quality blade, once a week is probably too often, the best way is to go by feeling and change when you feel that it is not taking as well as before.

5. Shaving irritates and wears down the skin

If you pay close attention to the preparation and aftercare, shaving is actually good for the skin. Shaving helps remove dead skin and gives it a healthier appearance. If you find that your skin becomes dry or irritated after shaving, it is probably because your skin is not sufficiently prepared before shaving. Use an emollient product such as shaving oil that softens the beard hairs before you start shaving. Finish with a soothing and moisturizing aftershave.
