History of the mill
The company was founded in 1945 in Stützengrün, Germany, by Otto Johannes Müller. Under simple conditions, the production of shaving brushes began in post-war East Germany. Demand for the handmade products was high, and exports to countries such as Russia and Greece began in the 1950s.
By the early 1960s, the company was exporting to 63 countries and in 1965 his son Hans-Jürgen took over the company. Under the East German government, Hans-Jürgen was forced to sell the company and it remained state-owned for many years.
After the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989, the company was able to start up again under the name Hans-Jürgen Müller GmbH & Co KG. Thanks to the long experience of the employees and the good quality, sales took off and in 2006 the company started producing under the name Mühle again. The head office is still located in Stützengrün and all production is still carried out from here.
Mühle’s production today
Mühle is one of the largest distributors of high-quality shaving products for wet shaving and they export their goods worldwide. Good quality is one of the things that drives the company forward and thanks to their long experience in the industry, they constantly manage to come up with new well-made goods.
Mühle design series
The design series are always handmade and a huge amount of work goes into them. In 2011, they introduced a completely new type of shaving brush. As an alternative to the classic badger hair brush, they came up with a brush made of synthetic hair with the same feel as the animal hair. The synthetic variants Blackfibre and Silvertip Fibre are perfect for animal lovers.
There are several ranges of shaving brushes, planers and accessories:
- The Classic range: Stripped down with a simpler design, available with both badger hair and Silvertip Fibre.
- The Traditional range: Consists of shaving brushes and safety razors in a traditional design, available in chrome, black, and rose.
Sustainability and Mühle Organic
Mühle attaches great importance to using natural ingredients. Their shaving creams, soaps and balms are made from 99% natural ingredients such as beeswax, minerals and aloe vera.
In 2012, they launched Mühle Organic, a BDIH-certified range. These products contain no synthetic odorants or dyes, and raw materials are mostly organically grown. This range is a complete body care series including lotions, shampoos, and shower gels.
